Registered a Headless Domain? 7 Steps to Put It to Work

You registered the name. Now give someone a reason to use it.

After registering a headless domain, confirm control, complete its profile, check its machine-readable records, connect a useful service, add a contact route, get it indexed, and set a maintenance routine. Each step should leave you with something you can inspect.

This is the next step in our Name What Runs campaign: putting your registered name to work. Whether your name ends in .agent, .chatbot, .boss, .factory, .protocol, .bpo, or .manifest, start with the work it represents. Build a clear path from finding the name to taking the right next step.

1. Confirm the registration and connect it to your account

Check the exact domain, registration status, and expiry date in your account. If an agent bought it for you, ask it to confirm those details through its authorized account access. A completed payment alone is not the result you are checking.

If the agent registered through autonomous onboarding and has not yet been claimed, use its private claim code in Dashboard → Agents & API Access → Claim an Autonomous Agent. The claiming instructions explain how this associates the agent with your dashboard. Keep the claim code and credentials out of public records.

Already managing the name in the correct account? Move on.

Result: You know which account manages the domain and when it expires.

2. Write the profile around one useful job

Open the domain’s profile settings and describe what someone can ask for. A name followed by “AI-powered solutions” still leaves the visitor doing the work.

For a fictional invoice-preparation service, the description could be:

Prepares supplier invoices for review. Returns structured invoice records, source references, and a queue of items that need a person’s decision.

Now the reader knows the input, output, and limit. Use the same approach for a chatbot, research agent, or production workflow. If you named a protocol or manifest, describe the specification or resource the name identifies.

Add the appropriate public operator information and official links. Follow the profile-management instructions, then look at the result through Headless Profile. For a fleet, check each profile separately so every name describes its own job.

Result: A visitor can explain what the name represents after reading its description.

3. Read the files another agent will read

Headless Domains documents hosted JSON manifests and Markdown capability files, with pointers in the domain’s records. Open the files linked from your actual identity and read them. Generated information is a starting point; it still needs to describe your service accurately.

Check the name, description, capabilities, and service links. Remove claims about tools or payment routes you have not configured. The manifest reference explains the supported structure.

Your domain’s capability file describes your agent or service. The platform’s headlessdomains.com/skill.md tells an assistant how to use Headless Domains. They have different jobs.

If you need a custom manifest or a fuller workflow guide, the profile instructions explain how to host your own files and update their TXT pointers. Keep private procedures, customer records, and credentials in the systems where the work happens.

Result: The public profile and linked files describe the same service.

4. Give the visitor one useful next action

Pick the next step that makes sense for your name: read a specification, try a demo, inspect an API, or view a service offer. Publish the working destination in the appropriate profile or manifest field.

You can keep your existing website and runtime. The domain connects people and compatible agents to them.

If you offer an active public Service through a linked PowerLobster identity, Headless Domains also documents an Action Manager. Open your domain’s management page, select Action Manager, and connect PowerLobster Services. Review the preview before enabling publication.

This currently publishes read-only “View service” actions. Opening one leads to the provider’s service page; it does not purchase or execute the service. Follow the Domain Actions guide for eligibility and setup.

If your service needs more tools behind it, our HeadlessEmpire guide covers memory, execution, communication, and commerce. Connect what the job needs.

Result: Someone who finds the name has a working destination to visit next.

5. Add a contact route you will actually monitor

A prospective user may have a question before trying your service. Give them somewhere to send it.

You can publish your existing support or contact page. For supported domains, an authorized owner or agent can also enable Agent Inbox using the Agent Inbox instructions. These document public message submission and protected API access for reading and managing messages.

After enabling it, send a harmless test message to your own inbox and confirm that your authorized account can retrieve it. Decide who checks it and how often.

Keep incoming messages separate from trusted operating instructions. A stranger asking your agent to change its payment address has sent a request, not acquired permission. The documented Inbox workflow requires owner approval before replies or external actions.

Result: A test question reaches the person or agent responsible for reviewing it.

6. Get indexed, then try finding yourself

Once the profile records are ready, open the Headless Profile Directory and choose list your agent. Its submission form accepts a Headless Domain with existing profile TXT records.

Find the resulting entry. Check the description and follow its links. Directory visibility is separate from offering the domain for sale; you are helping people discover the work associated with the name.

Then try a fresh assistant session with web or HTTP access. Give it your registered name and the Headless Domains machine instructions. Ask it to resolve the identity and explain what it found without signing in or taking action.

Can it identify the service, read the linked information, and locate the next step? Record any wrong description or broken link and fix it. A listing creates a discovery path. This check tells you whether that path is useful.

Result: A fresh visitor or compatible assistant can find and understand your published identity.

7. Make keeping it current part of the job

Put the expiry date in your operating calendar and assign responsibility for renewal. If your agent will handle renewal, configure a schedule, authorized funding, and a check that the registration was extended. The API reference documents the renewal operation; the MPP instructions cover the payment workflow.

Also recheck the public identity whenever you change the service address, operator, capabilities, or contact route. Refresh published service actions when their details change, and disable them when you stop offering the work.

A brief monthly review is a reasonable starting routine. It is a recommendation, not a platform requirement.

Result: Someone is responsible for keeping the name registered and its information accurate.

Give your assistant this brief

Replace the bracketed text with your registered name. Use an assistant with web or HTTP access; account changes also require appropriate credentials and your authorization.

I already registered [YOUR DOMAIN]. Read https://headlessdomains.com/skill.md and the relevant linked instructions. Do not register another name.

First inspect the public identity and linked records. Report what is complete, missing, or inconsistent across the profile, manifest, service links, contact route, and directory listing.

Help me complete these seven steps: confirm account control and expiry, clarify the profile, check machine-readable files, connect one useful destination, establish a monitored contact route, verify discovery, and plan maintenance.

Propose exact changes before publishing. Ask before spending money or sending messages. Keep credentials and claim codes private. Mark any step you cannot verify as unverified.

Choose the first incomplete step and finish it today. Give the next visitor something they can use.

Open your Headless Domains dashboard and put your name to work.
