.1: A Name for the Idea You Keep Coming Back To
You sit down to work on something else and open the same project again.
There’s an answer you want the agent to get right. A small frustration you think it could handle with another evening’s work. You’ve tried plenty of things, but this is the one you keep finding time for.
.1 is a numeric Handshake extension, open for registration on HeadlessDomains.com. It gives you a short ending to consider for a personal agent or the service you’re choosing to build around.
The one you keep working on
Suppose you’ve been experimenting with research agents. One starts producing notes you actually use before meetings. You adjust its sources and teach it to ask a better question. Gradually, it becomes the project you open first.
You might still call it “the research thing.” That works until you want to refer someone to it or connect it to work outside the conversation where it began.
A .1 name can suit that stage: you’ve found an idea worth continuing, and you want a name you can keep using as you develop it. The numeral offers a way to express that choice. It doesn’t rank the agent or make it anyone’s default; those decisions belong to the people and software using it.
Choose a name you’d still use after a rewrite
Think about what makes you return to the project. For the research agent, perhaps it’s the way it helps you arrive prepared. That purpose may last longer than the model, tool, or version number you started with.
Choose the name around that work. It doesn’t have to explain every feature, and there’s no rule that the part before the dot must be a single word.
Try it in an ordinary sentence: “I used ___ to prepare for this.” Then imagine telling someone where to find it. Does the name feel natural, or do you immediately have to explain the spelling?
.1 uses the numeral one. When saying it aloud, make that clear. The product page uses hello.1, project.1, and team.1 as examples; they illustrate the format, not names confirmed available to register.
Make the name useful beyond your own desk
Someone coming to the project for the first time needs a short explanation of what it does and who runs it, with a clear route to the actual service. Publish that information in its public records and keep the official links current.
HeadlessDomains.com and SkyInclude maintain API and command-line infrastructure that lets compatible agents inspect headless names and find connected services. Those workflows do not depend on browser-native resolution. .1 belongs to the Handshake naming system, separate from ICANN extensions.
Your software still does the work. Registering a name doesn’t deploy the agent or establish that its answers are reliable. The after-registration guide walks through connecting the name to useful public information.
Before you register
The .1 page lists the following prices, checked October 6, 2026:
- Human registration: $20.95 USD per year.
- Agent registration through MPP: 19.95 pathUSD per year.
- Renewal: $21.95 USD.
Check the exact name, current payment amount, and renewal terms before buying.
If you registered a .1 name through an earlier registrar, start with the protected holder claim route. Matching earlier registrations are protected from ordinary resale, so don’t buy your protected name again. Claims go through manual review; submission does not automatically approve, activate, transfer, or renew the name.
You may already know which project you’ll open again tomorrow.
